Great Barrier Reef Tour
dilip m, 12-12-2022
Cairns is a quaint little city on the NE of Queensland. The importance of this city for the tourists is centred around an experience of the Great Barrier Reef. There are many tours both by sea on ferries and by helicopters. We took a day’s ferry trip to and fro the Green Island. The ferry boat organised for us half submerged tour and glass bottomed boat tours to experience the underwater coral reefs and marine life in crystal clear waters of the Coral Sea. The Green island itself is picturesque with a nice beach for the snorkellers to revel and relax and offers a resort in case one wants to stay.

had a good time on the trip. I was advertised a catamaran so when I got to the departure point I was very surprised to see such a massive boat. It obviously caters for young families and older people but still had a good time. Was also not informed that in order to do the snorkel safari it was an extra 30$ as online it seemed to be included in the price. Also had to pay for lunch which I also thought was included but ended up having quite a nice fish and chips on the island. Prices are quite expensive but had expected that. Corals/fish were nice but I wish we had seen a bit more wildlife when snorkelling, especially after paying 30 extra dollars.
More information would be good

When we arrived at Green Island, we were given areas where we could snorkel and where we could not. We were told that around the jetty was out of limits due to the vessels that were moored there. So we went in to a couple of areas from the beach on either side of the jetty. It was amazing if you want to see crystal clear water and sea grass. We saw not fish, no coral and the only turtles we saw were when we were standing on the jetty. When we took our snorkel gear back to the boat, we noticed quite a few people snorkeling around the jetty and even noticed a landing pad to get into the water. As we were nearly ready to board the boat back to Cairns, we felt very disappointed that we were not told we could snorkel from that area as we saw lots of brightly coloured fish and coral standing on the jetty. Another couple also had the same story.
Good tour but few things can improve

The tour was a good tour. The semi submersible submarine was amazing. The glass bottom boat was lovely. The only thing that was disappointing is the food. The lunch provided wasn't nice at all. The food was very cold and could hardly eat. The toilets on the boat was very small and on the island was very dirty. Besides that we enjoyed ourselves.
