Michaelmas Cay
Located 22 nautical miles (40 km) from Cairns, the same as the distance across the English Channel, and close to the outer reef systems, Michaelmas Cay is the largest of the uninhabited coral cays in the Cairns region; in fact it is huge in comparison.
Seastar is the first vessel to arrive at Michaelmas Cay. Very few tour vessels are now permitted access to this sensitive island and now there are only two which travel daily that are permitted the right to use and access the Cay.

Great Barrier Reef
Our second location where we stop is Hastings reef, part of the outer Great Barrier Reef.
Hastings Reef is located 30 nautical miles out from Cairns and is a typical outer reef, on most days a line of breakers marks where the deep ocean swells break onto the reef wall. The reef itself is shallow on top, with steep sides reminiscent of cliffs falling away into the surrounding water.

Great experience.

Turned up and was warmly welcomed by our skipper, Matt. Cruised out to site and went for a great dive with DM. Kayla.
An enjoyable day out, with a few photos thrown in - even if I do like like a bean pole ✌️
Fun

Amazing crew and experience. The areas we went snorkelling were beautiful. Saw a turtle. Definitely recommend.
Great experience for beginners

Great experience for our family group of 4 which included a couple of nervous beginners to snorkeling.
The boat trip was good (luckily a very calm day, only 15kmh wind forecast) and well catered. If you like a more comfortable seat and air conditioning, grab a seat downstairs when you board. We only had about 25 guests on our trip which was a comfortable number for the space.
Lots of staff, so plenty of help when needed and an obvious focus on safety which was reassuring.
The snorkeling was great, some great reef areas and lots of fish, turtles etc.
the glass bottom boat was good to do (the guide provided some commentary and we got to see a few more areas outside of our swim distance.
A must do

A great experience, less people so a more personalized service. One of the first boats out of the Harbour so get to the reef first.
Nice tour

My only complaint was that the snorkel mask didn't fit my face no matter how we adjusted it, and they only had the one brand; I spent the whole time stopping every few minutes to empty the water out, and left with a sore throat from cnorting seawater.
We drove out to Michaelmans Cay first, which was shallow and beautiful; I highly recommend the glass bottom boat tour. We saw a small turtle and some barracuda. After the tour we got to a small sandy nature reserve island. I wanted sunglasses, I could barely see it was so bright. The birds were cool. We snorkeled around; I saw sea cucumbers, sea urchins, and tons of different colorful or drab varieties of fish. Swim over the giant clams and watch them react to your shadow! We had an alright lunch, got enough to eat, and then headed to Hastings Reef. The water was deeper here and the guided snorkel was great! Snacks on the way back were fruit and cake, and it rained hard. We were all sleepy from the trip.
